Welcome to Coastal Swim Coaching! We are Open Water Swim Coaches based in the beautiful Ilfracombe, North Devon. Whether you are looking to improve your stroke, transition from pool to sea, build your confidence and knowledge in the open water or start your swimming journey, then our specialised coaches, sessions and event swims are for you!

WHAT WE OFFER

We offer a range of sessions to support every swimmer, whether you’re completely new, growing confidence, building fitness, or exploring the open water. From technique-focused Swim Coaching to relaxed Float & Flow, from Swim Fitness and Swim Squad to guided Swim Practice, Coastline Adventures, and personalised 1:1 coaching, there’s something for every goal and every pace. Our sessions are for EVERYONE, of any age, gender, background or ability, and we always adapt the session to suit you. We also specialise in helping swimmers transition from the pool to open water safely and confidently, developing awareness, trust and comfort in the sea. You are warmly invited to come along, meet us, try a session and chat about what the best next steps might be for you. You don’t have to have it all figured out before you arrive. Swim Coaching

This is our core coaching session for anyone who wants to improve their technique, confidence, and overall ability in the water. We break skills down in a really clear, encouraging way, giving you practical tools that make swimming feel smoother, easier, and more enjoyable. Whether you’re new to swimming, returning after some time away, or looking to get the basics feeling right, this is where to start.

Swim Fitness

A focused session for building fitness, endurance, and strength in the water. This is about moving, working, and progressing your stamina gradually and safely. You do not need to be “fit” to begin – you come here to build it. We’ll guide you through structured sets with support throughout, helping you push yourself in a positive and achievable way.

Swim Practice

A relaxed, coached supervision session where you can come along and practice what you’ve been learning. No new technique is introduced here – instead, you get time, space, encouragement, and small cues to help things settle in. It’s ideal for anyone who benefits from repetition, support, and the freedom to go at their own pace.

Sea Knowledge & Practice

This is all about learning to understand and feel more confident in the open water. We explore tides, currents, reading the sea state, safe entry and exit, and how to move in a changing environment. You’ll gain both practical skills and water awareness that help you feel more in control and connected to the ocean. Perfect for swimmers who want to expand beyond the pool in a safe and supported way.

Swim Squad

A structured training session with a team feel. This session is for swimmers who are ready to work on pace, progression, and performance in a supportive group environment. You’ll follow coached sets, develop consistency, and push yourself (in a healthy way) among others working towards their own goals. It’s uplifting, motivating, and brilliant for building confidence and power.

Float & Flow

A gentle, calming session focused on connection with your body, breath, and the water. This session is slow, mindful, and supportive. We explore floating, balanced movement, and the emotional and sensory experience of being held by the water. Perfect if you want to feel soothed, grounded, and reconnected.

1:1 Sessions

A fully personalised coaching session where everything is tailored to you. We meet you exactly where you’re at and shape the session around your goals, pace, confidence level, and learning style. Ideal if you prefer focused guidance, want to work on something specific, or are building confidence and would like space and privacy to explore the water with direct support.

The Lap (Larkstone to Rapparee)

£12.50 – Distance: 250m (single) / 500m (return)

The Lap is our shortest open water swim and the perfect way to dip your toes into coastline adventures. Starting at Larkstone, we’ll swim around the rocks into the next bay at Rapparee, giving you that exciting sense of journey without feeling too exposed. It’s a brilliant confidence-building swim that lets you stretch your distance a little further than the Larkstone Buoys, while still staying within a sheltered and supported route.

The Big Cheese Swim (Combe Martin)

£12.50 – Distance: Approx. 500m

The Big Cheese Swim is a brilliant Combe Martin adventure that keeps you close to the coastline while still giving you that exciting “proper sea swim” feeling. We’ll hug the rocks and follow the route of the coastal path that disappears beneath the water at high tide, before swimming out and around to The Big Cheese — a chunky rock that looks just like a giant slice of cheese. A perfect swim for those wanting to explore, build confidence, and go a little further, all within the shelter and safety of the bay.

The 3 Bay Mini Swim

£15 – Distance: Approx. 800m

The 3 Bay Mini is the perfect step up for swimmers wanting to build confidence and go a little further. Starting at Larkstone, we’ll swim round into Rapparee and continue towards Swallows Cove, giving you a longer adventure than the Larkstone to Rapparee swim. This route takes you slightly further into deeper water, making it a brilliant confidence-builder while still feeling safe, supported, and seriously rewarding.

The Healy Good Adventure

£20 – Distance: Up to 1km

The Healy Good Adventure is a fun, shoreline-hugging swim packed with exploration and sea magic. We’ll weave amongst the rocks, dip into hidden coves and pools, and enjoy plenty of swishes and swooshes through rocky gaps as we journey towards Beacon Point. With stunning views around Hillsborough, including the iconic Arch and dramatic cliffs, this swim is all about adventure, confidence-building, and discovering the coastline in a whole new way — guided, supported, and seriously good fun.

The Healy Big Buoys

£15 – Distance: Up to 800m

The Healy Big Buoys is a bold, confidence-building swim that takes you beyond the shelter of Hele Bay and out into deeper, more exposed water. This one isn’t about hugging the rocks — it’s about embracing the open sea, with panoramic views stretching in both directions along the coastline. Not necessarily the longest swim, but definitely one of the most powerful, giving you that true big-water feeling and a huge sense of achievement.

The Hele to Haggington

£18 – Distance: Up to 1.2km

The Hele to Haggington swim is a stunning coastline adventure heading out of Hele Bay and sweeping round towards Haggington’s beach, with the dramatic beauty of Rillage Point guiding the way. This swim is all about hugging the cliffs, soaking up spectacular views, spotting the hidden waterfall, and enjoying a longer stretch of deeper water. Perfect for swimmers ready to take the plunge, stretch their distance, and experience a truly wild side of the North Devon coast.

The Coastal Classic — Hele to Larkstone

Single £25 – Distance: Approx. 1.5km

Return £30 – Distance: Up to 3km

The Coastal Classic is one of our most iconic swims, taking you between Hele Bay and Larkstone. Depending on conditions, we’ll start at either end, using the tides and sea state to create the best possible experience. Expect incredible coastline views, swooshing through and around the rocks at Beacon Point, stretches of deeper water, and that unbeatable feeling of swimming past the harbour along Ilfracombe’s stunning shoreline. A proper bucket-list swim and a Coastal Swim Coaching must-do.

The Coastal Epic Trio (Hele • Haggingtons • Larkstone)

£30 – Distance: Up to 3km

The Coastal Epic Trio is our biggest and most adventurous swim, linking three iconic bays — Hele Bay, Haggingtons, and Larkstone — into one unforgettable journey. Depending on conditions, we’ll create the best possible route between all three, combining stunning rock-hugging sections with exhilarating stretches of open, deep water. This is the longest of all our swims and the ultimate challenge for swimmers wanting a truly epic experience, breathtaking scenery, and serious bragging rights.
